BAKA

Ainhoa Ezkurra

The Baka people are a semi-nomadic, forest-dwelling ethnic group primarily found in southeastern Cameroon, as well as parts of Gabon, the Republic of Congo, and the Central African Republic.

Traditionally, the Baka live in close connection with the tropical rainforest, relying on hunting, gathering, fishing, and small-scale farming for sustenance. They have rich cultural traditions expressed through music, dance, storytelling, and spiritual practices closely tied to nature.

In recent decades, many Baka communities have faced challenges such as deforestation, displacement, and social marginalization, leading to struggles in maintaining their traditional lifestyle while adapting to modern pressures.
