Blooming Haze

Etienne Francey

( Words Giorgia Magrin )Etienne Francey’s photographs seem to emerge in that suspended moment when night slowly shifts to day—in that hazy instant when images begin to fade under the weight of darkness, while the mind gradually adjusts to the new colours of morning. His subjects appear immersed in an unreal, dense light that does not merely reveal but transfigures—bringing hidden details to the surface, redrawing contours, and making colours vibrate. His plastic, saturated colourations feel like fiction, as if nature itself were being redrawn under the newborn light of day—or as if someone had traced a sharp boundary, a line, only to fill it with thick, oily brushstrokes.
