TENERIFE, UNSPOKEN

Carmen Colombo

With spring approaching, there’s no better time to escape to Tenerife, the largest of Spain’s Canary Islands. Italian photographer Carmen Colombo shares with us its understated beauty in her photo series Tenerife, Unspoken, offering a contemplative and unconventional look at the island’s landscapes, colors, and light.

Tenerife, often called the “Island of Eternal Spring,” boasts a mild climate year-round, but spring is particularly special. The island awakens with wildflowers across its volcanic terrain, and the beaches—ranging from black volcanic sands in Playa Jardín to golden dunes in Las Teresitas—become even more inviting. Tenerife is a paradise for hikers, with trails winding through the lush Anaga Rural Park and the Mars-like landscapes of Teide National Park. The island also offers rich cultural experiences, from the colonial streets of La Laguna to the colorful Santa Cruz Carnival.

Colombo’s series offers an unexpected point of view on the island, playfully challenging our expectations of what is usually considered a touristic destination.

As Tenerife, Unspoken reveals, there’s a quiet magic to the island beyond its famous resorts.
