BYALO UTRO
Danijel Tomic
Byalo Utro is a photographic series by Danijel Tomic, produced during the annual gathering of the Universal White Brotherhood in Bulgaria’s Rila Mountains. Each August, before sunrise, hundreds of practitioners dressed in white ascend to the alpine meadows surrounding the Seven Rila Lakes to perform Paneurhythmy, a collective sequence of choreographed movements developed by the Bulgarian spiritual teacher Peter Deunov.
Set to music and repeated in concentric formations, the practice unfolds somewhere between ritual, exercise, and social choreography
The series remains attentive to the visual logic of the gathering itself. Tomic observes its grammar of gestures, the subtle negotiations between synchronization and autonomy, the moments when concentration, hesitation, and repetition reveal the mechanics of collective presence.
