LEGENDARY SIKH RIDERS

In the Vancouver area, the Indo-Canadian community, largely tied to Sikhism, is now a visible and active presence.

Among its most recognizable expressions are the Legendary Sikh Riders, a motorcycle group blending road culture with cultural identity.

For observant Sikhs, the turban is an essential religious symbol. In British Columbia, the law allows an exemption letting Sikh riders go without a helmet, in respect of religious freedom and individual identity.

When I met them, they told me nobody had ever really stopped to photograph them — not like this, not with the time to listen.
