SNOWMEN

Charles Negre

This unconventional still life series by Charles Negre and Alina Joana Rüede (Studio Végété) is featured in Arxipelag Volume III ( Fun) along with a shot fiction piece by writer Annalise June Kamegawa.

Kamegawa writes: “There’s something about Charles Negre and Aline Joana Rüede’s snow characters. I would call them snowmen, but the forms here are more animated, joyful, that they deserve nomenclature beyond the humdrum classification of mere “man”. Their lopsided features, waning smiles, and resigned melting under the winter sun got me thinking about how not only do we change, but inevitably, so do the people around us. Controlling the passage of time is as futile as fighting a storm or stopping a snowman from melting.”
