Where the Wind Rests began with the wind — moving through soil, weather, plants and the people who live among them. Over time, these elements began to appear less like separate parts of the landscape and more like traces of the same force.
The photographs move between bodies, plants and open land: a gesture, a field, a face, a tree shaped by years of weather. Small signs of a place entering the lives that inhabit it, and of those lives leaving something behind.
In Tajikistan, the wind seems to stay. It settles into the landscape, into the body, into memory. Even after leaving, something of it remains.

Yang Chen is a Shanghai-based photographer whose work explores the subtle relationships between people, place, and memory. Drawn to quiet encounters and sensory details, he uses photography to observe how environments shape lived experience, and how traces of time remain in bodies, landscapes, and everyday life.
